Growing up...
in the streets of Los Angeles, a young Billy Davenport's musical journey began at the age of 9.  After seeing how much music heavily influenced Billy, a neighborhood friend Andrew Justin, showed him how to structure his rhymes into songs and a young “Smokey Robinson” (as called by DJ Battlecat) was born.
BOX was born.
He became an Original Good Lifer rhyming on stage weekly with Freestyle Fellowship, The Pharcyde, and all of underground hip hop Los Angeles. BOX’s rhyming and beatboxing skills soon granted him studio time with The LA Dream Team, the late Johnny J (known for producing the late 2Pac and Candyman’s Knockin’ The Boots), DJ Battlecat, & DJ Quik. It was then that BOX would win a talent show at Ice T’s United Nations nightclub which led to a recording contract with PWL / Mercury / Polygram. At the same time, BOX was to start working on LA’s We’re All In The Same Gang project but his new contract prevented it.

In his high school years,
BOX dropped his first album entitled B.O.X. Beyond Ordinary X-istence and the song “What Is Black?” from the album found placement on the motion picture soundtrack and the score of Hangin’ With The Homeboys starring Doug E Doug and John Leguizamo. He was also performed a rap segment which appeared on Gabriel's Fire starring James Earl Jones.
After graduating,
BOX signed a co-publishing agreement with the late Eazy E & Jerry Heller of Ruthless Records. Under Ruthless, BOX wrote for JJ Fad, HWA, Steffon, and Eazy E himself. He co-wrote Az Much Ass U Want by HWA which was also released on the Ruthless 10th Anniversary album. Outside of Ruthless, he was also writing with Boo Yaa T.R.I.B.E., Sir Jinx, E-A-Ski, CPO, and Chocolate (Producer of Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby).
Moving to Miami in 1993,
BOX became one-third of the rap group 3re Tha Hardaway (pronounced TREY the hard-a-way). The group released two albums with guest features by DJ Khaled, BG of the Hot Boys, Too $hort, Trick Daddy, Daz of the Dogg Pound, UGK, and E-A-Ski with production from Red Spyda, Pimp C., Mike Fresh (producer of MC Shy D and Luther Campbell’s) Poison Clan, and Cool & Dre to name a few. BOX also worked with Cameo's Larry Blackmon, the legendary Betty Wright, Inner Circle, and Three-6-Mafia on other studio projects.

Going back to Cali after 10 years,
BOX joined the AGVA union and landed a gig in Universal Studios Hollywood doing voice overs and acting as the theme park character of Professor Klump from The Nutty Professor. Along with securing an extra role in the motion picture Waist Deep starring Tyrese Gibson, he founded Hot Box LLC and quickly began to gain his independence in music. BOX released plenty of singles, and as his friendship with DJ Battlecat became a lot stronger, he became the VP of Battlecat’s production company. With Battlecat as his mentor, BOX began working with KAM, Kilo aka Down, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Xzibit, DJ Pooh, Kurupt, Compton AV, Mykestro, Howard Johnson, and Leon Sylvers on various studio projects.
BOX can now be heard on Apple Music's Beats 1 Radio ripping the mic on Dr. Dre's Pharmacy radio show. He is also releasing new music on his own independent record label, Hot Box LLC. Go to his YouTube channel, HOTBOXLLC, to check out his music.
